Peace Be Unto You
Peace Be Unto You

We all know that Jesus Christ was not born on Christmas Day. Having said that, millions of Christians around the world take the time to remember Christ and the impact of His life on humanity during the Christmas season. It is not about the trees, the lights nor the gifts; but it is more about the posture of our hearts as we reflect on the meaning of the Advent season. Here it is, we are celebrating the life of a baby boy who was chosen as a ransomed gift to reconcile man back to God through the act of reconciliation. We who were at enmity with God through our sins and trespasses have been given the opportunity to repent and to be made anew by the shedding of Jesus’ blood on the cross.

The Christmas story is about the celebration of life and the impact that one can have in a world filled with gross darkness. The Advent season is also about light; Christians are reminded to arise and shine so that others may see their good works and so glorify the Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16). The Advent season is also about family. Christ had a mother; a father and He had siblings. It’s a generational story in which blessings are meant to be passed down from one generation to the next. Families are meant to be the vehicle through which the Word of God is taught and the evidence of such should be seen in our actions. As we celebrate Christmas day, let’s remember to plug into the Word of God. It is in God’s Word that we find the true meaning of life. On Christmas day, remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.

Every time we celebrate Christmas we are choosing to pursue reconciliation. There are those of us who have been separated from loved ones for whatever reason. There are those who have been torn apart because of trauma and other unfortunate circumstances. The Christmas story is here to remind us that no matter how scattered we think we are, Christ gives us the opportunity to start afresh and live. Isaiah 61:1 says that the “Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound”
