When one thinks of the word corporate from a secular context, we can think of suits, briefcases, laptop bags, and overseas trips to tie up that all important business deal. Ah, yes corporate, the word is like a locomotive train which moves things along, ensuring that all systems are in place for a business to run smoothly and to run successfully. When we think of the word corporate, we also think of work. It’s about strategizing, organizing, implementing and delivering. Good corporations exist and thrive because they understand the ethics of work.

Similarly, from a non-secular perspective, the corporate anointing is often spoken of in the context of the Ecclesia or the called out. The church is given a mandate to go ye therefore into all the nations to teach, train, and equip disciples to help others live God empowered lives Matthew 28:19-20. The church is imbued with power, authority and very special gifts to function as one; whole and integral to the work of the Lord in restoring people to have fellowship with God.

Christ Jesus has a very special relationship with the church; He calls her His bride. He sees her and He woos her in courtship to reveal His everlasting love. His bride as a response to that love is transformed into ways of beauty and redemption.  Yet, through this process, the bride doesn’t have an individual name, except that she is called the church. She is referred to in a corporate manner. If we look through John 2 :1-12, we see a wedding occurring in a corporate context. We see in the passage that the names of the bride and the bridegroom are not revealed. We don’t know them. The passage also refers to other players. There is Jesus, His mother and the disciples to name a few.

Despite the various actors in the afore-mentioned story, a common problem is identified. The wine has run out. This certainly would have disrupted the merriment and the vibe. Can you imagine attending a wedding and there is no wine? Not even non-alcoholic wine? Jesus not wanting to reveal Himself before time, was prompted to intervene when His mother showed care and concern. Jesus got to work, and He employed the corporate strategy. He utilized the people, He utilized the resources, and He utilized the problem. This showcase of help spawned a miracle. The merriment was restored, and the events of the wedding were saved. Jesus turned water into wine. We may not have known the names of the bride and the bridegroom but they both received a miracle.

Miracles can occur when someone decides to join or partner with “God – actions”. As we look for Jesus and look to Jesus, don’t be surprised that He is already on His way. When He finds you, He will place you in a bigger picture and a bigger context. Somewhere along the line He will tell you that it is about you, but then again, He will also say it’s not about you. Shalom!
